Ripped jeans and a T-shirt
Discussion
Help! I am, last minute attending the Silverstone GP as a VIP. Since Pistonheads doesn't have a "how to get dressed" section, it's all going in here.
I don't want to go into details of the who, what, when, where how etc...
Just know, that this weekend I spent my time driving a tractor, and as I look down at my lap I see multiple grease stains, rips, and holes in my T-shirt, that's older than my children.
This weekend, for 3 to 4 days, I will need to perform. I will need a shave, haircut and to put on my best-smiling face. I'm staying in a 5-star hotel, and, if I turn up looking like this I think I might hear some screams.
I will also be spending a lot of time being carted about as a "VIP". I assume through the paddocks and garages. I will avoid the TV cameras if I can.
And so... what do I wear? I can get a haircut and just about wash myself. but clothes are another thing altogether. I usually find something that works for me and then buy 10 of them at the same time so I don't have to think about it again for years.
"Smart casual", is all I have to go on. Help"

Have been in the f1 paddock / garages several times. Wear what you like. There’ll be the full spread from shorts and team t-shirt through to those wearing Lewis’s cast offs. I would wear what you feel comfortable in.
IME you could walk into a 5 star hotel looking like Tom hanks in cast away and the only comment would be whether sir would like an appointment with the in-house barber.

Shorts and a branded team polo shirt.
TX.
I don't do shorts, and I will be dipping between team garages. They all want a piece of me. Probably be best to be neutral on that one.TX.
On that note... I don't follow F1 anymore, it gives me heartache that I'm not out there doing some kind of racing. I do watch the "drive to survive" thing on Netflix, but then find myself doing the "Esses" in my sleep. Any F1 political etiquette I need to be aware of this year? What happened to Horney Horner in the end? Did it all go away?
Go to your local Marks & Sparks and pick out a pair of chinos (light-coloured trousers), a couple of casual shirts (with collars), a jumper, and a pair of shoes which can be anything from black office shoes to boat deck shoes. Tell them you’re going to play golf, and you won’t be far off.
If you have more of a budget, go instead to Ralph Lauren or Tommy Hilfiger in Bicester Village, which is about half an hour south of Silverstone.

This is scary - came to post exactly the same thing. If you have more of a budget, go instead to Ralph Lauren or Tommy Hilfiger in Bicester Village, which is about half an hour south of Silverstone.
You can't go wrong with anything in M&S - so anything that you feel comfy in from there is a winner. Personally I'd go for chinos and a Crew polo shirt.
Have a great time.

ZERO chance of me stepping into a physical clothes shop! I'm having to google most of the odd words you lot are saying on here and I'm already starting to rage out looking at "chinos" and other men's "junk". Why are almost all of the pictures of black guys? I might be searching for the wrong kind of things I guess... I just want to see someone who looks a little bit like me to figure out what I might look like. A slightly toned-down Lewis Hamilton seems to be on the cards at the moment.

As I said, go with what you are comfortable in. The main wealth indicator at these things is not what you’re wearing but how hot your girlfriend is.

Smart casual means, in basic terms, to avoid sportswear or looking like you've just decorated the dining room:
Clean trousers or smart jeans with no rips/tears in them.
A collared shirt - either polo shirt or 'proper' shirt. Again, clean and in decent condition.
Shoes and/or smart trainers. No running trainers or stuff you've just mown the lawn in.
A decent jumper if it's cold. A rain jacket if it's going to rain.
So - trousers and a shirt...............It's a Grand Prix, not Royal Ascot.
Team wear is always an easy solution. Presumably for such a trip it's coming through a team or association to one. Go online and you should be able to pick up a shirt/jumper from last year's collection for a reasonable price.
