I was in McLaren Glasgow yesterday and had a chat about the 750 and the Artura.

The opinion is the 750 is an off the charts improvement in each area over the 720, and a better car than the 765 as it has most of the benefits without the drawbacks.

They had 2 in the showroom, one of which is sold.

I think there are only 2 owners on here, but not many posts about their car.

It's usually the case if something is good, there aren't many posts, if something is bad, and epic thread starts!

Hopefully Brad can tell us not just about his shenanigans of his euro tour but also in depth how the 750 compares on similar trips with the 650, 720, 570 and the 720 spider as an evolution of if mclaren are getting it right.

I seen this advertised and that colour in the flesh is stunning:

Glasgow have the same colour Artura spider as a demo and it looks fantastic; the said as expected 1st gen Arturas had issues, but the gen 3 version is an absolute awesome bit of kit, with the latest power upgrade, a tweaked brake feel and better noise.

If you are quoting opinions from PH or from a dealer trying to sell then it’s usually Bo@@@@@

Try them yourself and form your own!

A 750S is an improvement over a 720s, no doubt, but it isn’t night and day.

The 765LT is a completely different beast to both !

I assume you have a 750 to make that comment or have had plenty time behind the wheel?

No I’ve not owned a 750s, but have had a few hours driving one

I have a 765, and also ran my 720s with it during winter/spring before selling it, and while I am no expert on cars or a driving god I think I can sense the differences

Thank you for the impartial view from a 765 owner.

I look forward to the views of any 750 owners who have a few miles under their belts.

Harry Metcalfe also gave a pretty decent impartial post on the 750 that was an interesting view.

A very trusted independent who has a couple of 765s for sale doesn't highly rate the 765, so interested in other opinions of the evolution of the 720 - 765 - 750.

Trusted Independent, and a McLaren dealer !!

You’ll be quoting the bloke down the pub as an expert soon.

As i said form your own opinion and go and test drive a few then your views may have some validity, otherwise it’s just the usual PH Bo@@@@@

You seem a tad angry.

I have no real desire to test drive and form my opinion as I cannot get over the aesthetics of the 720-765-750.

Why don't you just enjoy your 765 and hopefully a few owners of 750s shall pop in and give their views.

They shall endorse the independent dealer, the main dealers and Harry's views or debunk them.

Thank you for input though; it's well put across and valued.

Haven’t driven either but on looks the 765 is really purposeful especially the rear end …used 765 coupe or nearly new 750s Spider hmm it’s not an easy one tbh but think the LT badge has that extra cachet.

The LT cudos has some weight to desireability, but it's not always everyone's cup of tea.

The 765 was described to me yesterday as great for the track or an hours driving, but thereafter the 750 was better.

I arrived at the dealer in Glasgow after nearly 7hrs and just less than 500 miles in my LT only stopping once for fuel, so I could see the point that was being made.

Harsher ride, no carpets / sound deadening and more mechanical vibration can take its toll.

I always felt refreshed no longer how long the journey was in my 650 spider.

I assume you're on a road trip to Scotland and didnt drive 500 miles just to visit McLaren Glasgow?!

Yeah the 750 sounds like a brilliant package but it's gonna lose a big chunk more than a 765 if you spend close to £300k on either.

Haha!

No; the journey ended with handing it in for its service and mot.

Your right about the potential loss though; they had sold one with a similar spec to the '24 plate 1500mile Tokyo Cyan one that I linked at £285k for £322k.

However, that's pretty near across the board now as normality of pre covid has kicked in.

Hell of a long way to drop for a service! I assume you have another dealer closer than that?!

I am actually up this way, and Glasgow is the only dealer up here.

I had a trip to do that I took the mac for a blast as it meant on the way back I could drop it in for its service and get a courtesy car for the remainder of the journey back home.

They shall deliver it to me next week and collect the courtesy car.

Sorry for any confusion!

I currently have a 765LT Spider, had both a 720S Coupe and a 720S Spider, and recently spent a week with a 750S Coupe and posted a 2 part review. I would put the 720S vs. 750S in a similar bucket as the 12C vs. the 650S. Lots of small improvements resulting in a better all around car. 765LT is a far rawer & demanding proposition while the 750S is a more polished car.

Thanks SSO.

That was more or less how the guys at McLaren Glasgow put it.

765 for track or short road driving, but they would choose 750 for day to day and longer trips.

I only stopped briefly for fuel on my near 7hr jaunt in my LT, and welcomed the last 95 miles home in a brand new BMW 530e estate!

Still loved every mile though.

So in your words in the first post, how does that make the 750s the "better" car to the 765LT?

would be curious also to learn from owners who have driven both as it seems a real commitment when a lightly used 720 spider is £110k cheaper

Indeed, it’s all bit subjective as to what someone wants from a road car. I’ve chosen to stick with the 650 for the road, and added something really raw - a manual Atom - for track. In a sense, the LT’s are a compromise between the two.
