Headlight conversion
Discussion
Hello all,
I have a '98' Chimaera 500 and i am interested in exploring the costs etc of a headlight conversion. Please can anyone help with the following:
1. Photographs of headlight converted Chimaeras
2. Give me an idea of the costs involved
3. Recommend someone / a company to carry out the work
Thanks in advance.

price wise you are looking between 1100-1400 to have the headlights converted this includes normally respraying the whole front end and removing stone chips from the front,

There are three different versions of it.
1 two large lights [dipped and main beam]
2 two large and one small [side light]
3 two large, one small and one inbetween size [indicator]
I went for the 2nd [2 large/1 small] which is called 'speed six' conversion, and looked just right.
OPTION ONE did mine in Bromsgrove Worc's. I did have a picture on my profile but seems I've lost the bugger. Will try and post another.

You forgot the speed 12 version, T350, last faired, and VW thingy.
Plenty of options. IIRC Julian was working on some twin hellas fared in that fitted the pod. There were a very few twin headlamp conversions that had lights fared in individually (I think Jason discontinued them very quickly - but Julian prob knows all about them?)

I think the four light version is called the speed twelve isn't it Dave. Oh, and I was only talking of the 3 versions of the 'frenched' in type as discussed.
For me the T350 option doesn't really suit the car as much as the Speed6/12 as there is already some 'frenching' for the indicator/dummy intake lower down at the front.

You could go for the Lupo look, much in keeping with the original setup.

I had my light conversion done a bodyshop in kent it wasn't on a chimaera it was on a cerbera. From what i gather they are pretty similar though. I paid 1150 plus every ones favourite VAT and that came with a 12 month warranty

I wouldn't have thought it devalued the car as such, just makes your potential sales base smaller.
I wouldn't buy a car with that conversion but each to their own.
I would only buy a standard car (maybe a lupo conversion) or one with the Mk3 conversion.
I'd agree with all the above points. Personally I can't stand the Tuscan style conversion but then I know plenty who love it. I wouldn't buy a car with that conversion but each to their own.

This is my Lupo conversion - done by engineer1949 - IMHO it is by far the most superior look + means you actually get a decent light output.
You can see here how it was done - http://tvrengineer.co.uk/tvr-upgrades/headlight-co...
