Handed back a leased Polestar on Tuesday , leased through LeasePlan.

The inspector spent around 45 minutes looking over the car the alloy wheels had a few scuffs - rest ofvthe car was like new.

He ran the report and said it’s come back with no charges, so i signed the report and off he went.

Gets an email from leaseplan 3 days later with a bill for £1100.

And the link to their report doesn’t work.

Sounds a bit like a mickey take, can I dispute it as I wouldn’t have signed it if he had said there would be that size of charge, seems excessive for a few scuffs less than 2mm deep (on the report)

Has happened to me once a while ago - a bit of to and fro with me pointing out the report stating all ok and they relented.

Got to be worth pointing this out and referring them to their own report, whilst asking for a copy you can read yourself.

the report does say the wheels are scuffed and has pictures (this is the report from the inspector not from Leaseplan as I can't open that for some reason)

The below are the pictures from the report and the only things mentioned. £1100 seems rather excessive?

Last one looks a bit worse but no harm in arguing the toss.

Presuming that that's the only thing it's been marked for, £1100 for a wheel refurb?

That's all that's on the report I signed, nothing else.

The way the email from Lease Plan is worded is that they have had an 'independent report' done, if so, what's the point in the guy coming out and looking over it for 45 minutes.

Its a business Lease do they just do it in the hope businesses will just pay up?

Leaseplan website has a cost for each defect and that was used when I returned a car to them recently so if they’re charging you differently from that they are ripping you off.

Did you go over contacted mileage?
Would definitely challenge, especially if the inspector said no charges.
Can you track the car to see where it is now? If it went straight to BCA I doubt they’d care about any minor damage

maybe they've mixed someone else's car up with yours?

It'll be like a faceless conveyor belt to them and I guess many (larger) companies may just pay without questioning things

Well based on that it should be £77 per wheel.

It would help if the link to their report worked do i knew what the charges were for.

Ill call them in the morning

I had that too with lease plan in the past, the lady who collected it said it was in great nick, weeks later, transport got a large bill.
Told them what she said and argued it was fine when picked up, I can't be responsible what happens on their transporter. They dropped the bill in the end.

Managed to get hold of the report - they seem to be charging me £770 to actually replace one of the wheels?

Replace the wheel for a scuff?

Seems ridiculous to me, Im going to contest it

These lease firms try it on.

Is the wheel cracked?

You are allowed "fair wear and tear"

Offer them £200 and see what they say, most are prepared to haggle. (a bit)

refer them to their own guide of damage charges.
Is there a section for wheels beyond repair?

That's a helluva lot all in although the wheels do look scruffy

That last wheel the damage looks quite deep but can't make much out. Is this a case of they can't grind out the chip so new wheel required? Still seems very steep though.

Always fight, although with it being company car I'm not sure how defensive you can be

Theres also some charges for small defects on the body work which weren’t listed on the actual report i signed. Theyre only £40 each though which i don’t mind its the £700 for a new wheel which wasn’t pointed out to me at the inspection.

Haven’t had chance to ring them so ill try monday.

Why would you even agree to the £40 charges? If the defects weren’t noted when the car was collected they’re not your problem.

Please don’t roll over, you don’t need to.

You signed for and presumably agreed with what was said on the inspection, anything else I'd be telling them to Foxtrot Oscar, and considering the guy who did the inspection took 45 mins to do it then in my opinion had more than enough time to point out these small defects.

Taking you for a mug tbh.
