Hi friends, I took delivery of a 2020 Audi q8 7 days ago, at low speeds I hear a scraping sound that becomes loud and very noticeable when I apply the brakes. The MOT a year ago shows an advisory for this, however an not from several weeks ago does not. I called out Audi roadside assistance (AA man came) and he confirmed the noise and identified the 'extensive' pitting. The car came with a one year warranty I'm am fearful that Audi will say brakes are not covered or that since the MOT didn't have a warning it's not their problem..even though the problem here is noisy. I have photos of the clearly pitted disks, but not sure how to post them here since I'm a new member it won't let me. I'll try to post a broken link here (remove the two capital X)

Should I demand Audi replace via warranty, where do I stand? Many thanks.

Thanks friend, from that link about consumer rights it seems the relevant part is here:

"satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. To be of satisfactory quality, a car must not be faulty or broken when purchased, and it must be of a standard that a reasonable person would expect, taking into account its age and mileage if it’s secondhand"

So now I'm wondering, does pitted and brakes that make a grinding sound when driving and braking fall below what a reasonable person would expect? I know it does for me, but I'm biased here lol, any thoughts anyone please? Thanks all!

Go back to the supplying dealer and ask them to fix it. You can decide what to do once they agree or not...

Be interesting to see how you get on here. I too took delivery of an Audi, 2021 A4 and there is noticeable surface rust that in fairness is decreasing as I use the car more I’m not too bothered.

The car has 32k on it and had been stood for a while. There’s no massive lip on the disks and the pads have about 30% life in them I just add this to the next round of maintenance or service.

Every warranty I’ve seen will consider brakes as wear and tear consumables and presuming you had a good look at the car and a test drive it’s something I’d try and bake into a deal.

I mentioned this at the time of sale and the brakes were tested, pads and discs measured and they threw in a tank of fuel.

In short, all you can do is ask and then take your chances. As far as the MOT is concerned so long as the car meets the force required it’s whether that specific MOT test person decided it wasn’t loud enough for ad advisory.

you have a 30 day no quibble exchange BUT ask to see the checksheet of the "150 EXACTING checks" carried out as part of the used car programme.

You are/have paid a premium make them work for it. Shysters.

If seriously pitted and not just rusted that will wear off then probably not suitable.

If you used finance inform the finance co of the issue.

I think if the issue is real and you go in calmly but with a strong measured approach they will apologise and fix the issue .

FWIW I had a Q5 from new in March 20 returned Feb 23 with 32000m on it. The first MOT stated rear discs pitted and scored. The rear brake calliper had been sticking on on one side when I had it. A common issue with stupid electric and auto handbrakes sorry parking brakes.

Hmm, You want to complain because your brakes squeak? Irritating in a newly bought car, but if it's all legal... I suppose one can only ask. Good luck.

Its not a warranty item, but could fail their own preparation standards. Kick up a stink, demand to see the file from whoever inspected it.

You have a good case regarding the old vs current MOT advisories - especially if the mileage has gone up noticeably with no invoices to back up any work being done to the car.

If you start the conversation with, "I think i'm going to have to reject this car..." you should find the dealer takes notice. If you leave a negative review, you will get fast tracked.

If you want to be a nice guy, have a chat with the salesperson first and ask for his help.

Why are you trying to belittle the OP / issue by calling it a squeak. Grow up and try and score your internet points elsewhere.

If the AA under contract as part of your Audi Roadside Assistance have identified "extensive pitting" then you've been sold a car of questionable roadworthiness.

You could instruct an independent specialist to conduct a post purchase inspection and go back to the dealer with the results.

You've paid an uplift to a main dealer to avoid stuff like this. I'd reject the car and post some dogst through the dealership's letterbox.

My brakes were ‘pitted and corroded’, due to road salting and lack of use (post-CoVID). However, via an MOT they met the brake retardation requirements (force and balance). Your are probably in the same situation, so they are functional from a braking aspect, they just squeak/squeal and don’t look nice.
You can complain about the appearance and the noise, but you may be unsuccessful.

Sigh.

Regardless of the diction the brakes are legal and Audi aren't obligated to change them.

I bought my car as an approved used Audi in 2018. After a few weeks I found the rear tyres to be pretty much on the limit for needing replacement, and also of some dodgy make that they don’t even seem to really sell over here. Contacted the Audi dealership to be told the 150 point check is just a check, doesn’t mean they’ll actually fix anything they find to be wrong. They said I should have read the check sheet more closely when buying the car and negotiated any fixes into the deal.

They really are shysters and means I really no longer trust main dealers whatsoever.

I'd take a more softly-softly approach having a clear idea of what you want and see what their policy is what they're willing to do. I wouldn't quote your rights from the outset.

Was the car bought entirely remotely?
