Hi Everyone,

I am going to the FOS for the first time in a couple of weeks in a group of 6 and have some questions I hope you may answer for me! I am staying on campsite E, wondering how easy it is to get to and from the main event at this site?

Also wondering whether there is a bar and any entertainment in the evening at the campsite? I cant find any concrete info on this other than people suggesting getting a shuttle to the Goodwood Bar & Grill. Are the shuttle buses generally packed out and how frequently do they tend to run?

I am well travelled racing wise, going to Le Mans frequently, but just cant get any good information about Goodwood.

Any other general tips to make the most of the event would be appreciated!

Thanks!

There’s no bar or entertainment other than the hotel so stock up.

Theres a specific goodwood section that may already have answered your questions.

Camp site E is the closest to the main entrance. It’s only a 3 minute walk to the gate. Also closest to the hotel ( you walk past it to get to camp site ) which is the only place to eat/drink once GoodWood shuts

It's essential IMO to get in early and flash round the things you want to see because it's very crowded later. In the same vein, if you want to watch cars going up the hill you need to get in position early if you want a decent spot. Always looks good on TV from their elevated camera positions but the reality of being there is very different.

If you are going for more than one day, spend the first dsy wandering around to get your bearings, find the free stands and decide if you want to go up to see the rallying

Lots of good pubs in Chichester centre and my favourite pub, The Gribble, at Oving, not too far away

Quite a bit of rain over the last few days.

Forecast not looking great either, particularly Friday so hope the car parking isn't too dire.

Any tips for breakfast venues on the route in via Midhurst or Petworth where you can watch the other classic and exotica heading into the event?

Although you’d probably be better off getting to the circuit early rather than a watch a load of cars get ahead of you in the queue to get in

Yes good point.

Although I might try to breeze in after the queue subsides rather than join "peak queue"

Try the Badgers Inn, just a 5-minute drive south from Petworth. Friendly staff and a good choice of food options.

You'll miss a big chunk of the day doing that - queues don't really subside much before midday. It'll also be heaving by the time you get onto the site - those early couple of hours really are the best time to explore the paddocks etc.

No ideas for a name

This.

If you are that close, stopping for breakfast and watching will just mess up your day.
Get in at 07:30 if you can and all will be good.

Hmm, now the Badgers is looking more tempting than the FoS given the current English Summer weather forecast. Might just enjoy their full English and then head home to watch it on Youtube wink

A few points I feel I should mention.

Food and drink on site are expensive. Take snacks/drinks to supplement what you may buy there.

If you are going up to the rally stage they usually stop for lunch. Check if there is a stoppage this year and if so, what times. I've slogged up the hill before now to find it stopped then had to wait a while. If you are only there for the day this eats into time that you could use looking at other areas. Though having said that you can have a look at the rally cars parked up during this period.

Make a note of where you left the car, especially if it is small. I once took my Westfield and although I had a rough idea of where I left it, it still took a while to find. That was before SUVs became common.

I would also add to the previous comments about getting there as the gates open to get a bit of time in the pits before it gets too crowded.

And still it keeps raining. Forecast suggests even more to come with Friday looking like heavy rain.

I expect the parking will be awful with John Deere winning the prize for best vehicle in the car park.

Does anyone have experience of this? How good is the ground for drying quickly? Will the queues in/out be much worse due to 2 wheel drive cars being stuck?

Such a shame when so much goes into the organisation/planning.

What happened to global warming? Not long ago I was watching shows that claimed I'd need to replace all the plants in my garden with desert/Mediterranean species to cope with the arid conditions.

Whilst the fields used for parking take water fairly well, and tracks are laid in heavy use areas, if it really leaves down, chaos can ensue.

I have been towed out of parking fields twice over the last 20-odd years.
