f12 - sensible time to buy?
Discussion
Hi - New member!
Looking at f12's, prices seem to have been static for a couple of years(which is a good thing).
I'm in the position where an f12 is now an option. Any horror stories to look out for? Whats the annual service costs coming in at? On paper they look like less to run an an FF?
Thanks all.

Sensible time to buy IMO as I'm currently buying one! Expect it in the next couple of weeks.
Never had one before as such no experiences I can relay unfortunately.

Yes - good time to buy. Prices have levelled out and are even increasing in some cases.
Things I would look out for...
- Leather on the instrument binnacle where it meets the windscreen. Mine (and others) have started to shrink in the heat so check it's not lifting.
- Carbon brakes. Look for any signs of scores, pitting or cracks. These are monumental to replace if you need to.
- Seat bolsters. Check for wearing or discolouration of the leather
- Check for locking wheel nuts and any accessories like battery conditioner. This is in reality a re-badged CTEK - so no biggie if it doesn't exist
- Check the front splitter for signs of cracking or splits
Finally - good luck and post pics or it didn't happen

Mine has the carbon backed bucket seats and no lifter. You sit right on the deck, so short folk will be visibility challenged… They look awesome and are very comfortable. Give the car a more sporty personality which is fine if that’s what you want.
Exterior carbon was very expensive and some have it fitted but I don’t see the point. It’s just more expensive and delicate bling to worry about trashing.
Other desirable options - carbon interior bits and pieces. Shift lights. Not sure you really need much else although the full list is long and every car has spec variations as a result.
Many have modded exhaust elements - valves, back boxes, down pipes, x-pipes etc - all personal taste. The V12 sounds like an orchestra of angels out of the box, but it’s very easy to make it louder or nastier or both.
The pax display in the F12 is a bit Mickey Mouse and not really worth it - but can be retrofitted if needed.
Finally, they are very colour sensitive. The design of the car is quite complex and a metallic paint shows off the shape best. Rosso corsa and black kill the details.
And… finally, finally, make sure it’s got full ppf all over…

Apparently the motor industry would always go for plain white on any development body prototypes
I remember paint spraying an old GSX1100 bike, bright metallic blue with ghost flames - just having the first white colour coat on and I nearly changed plan and kept it white.
White sounds like a boring colour but brings all the details out...looks good at night and cooler in the sun.

Check brake air ducts on the front aren’t seized - £5k odd job to sort out apparently
Oh interesting, is that something you can check just by pushing them open? Is there a way to test them even without driving like a maniac with a camera attached and filming if they open or not?samoht said:
Congrats, looks good in the grey.
Planning any long trips to get the running in through with?
Will definitely be doing a proper running in, I don't understand why some people say that Ferrari's don't need it. Not planned for any mammoth drives yet though, will probably do hour or two long stints on the weekends to get a bit of running in done but might do a longer day or weekend trip at some point. The Mrs is from the US and always like seeing more of the UK.Planning any long trips to get the running in through with?

It's only done 84 miles since 2017? If you're planning to put some miles on then why not go for one that has been driven a bit already?Gassing Station | Ferrari V12 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
