Overview
We live in the future. It has already happened. We’ve stepped through the portal, fallen down the well, and crossed the Rubicon. And the indisputable proof of this is that the BMW M2 was unveiled not at a traditional auto show, but in a video game. In 2015 the car made its debut in the newly released Need For Speed game, before being shown to the world in physical form at the North American International Auto Show in January 2016. Make of that what you will.
But fear not, the M2 for sale here is very much in full physical form. PistonHeads have not yet begun selling non-fungible tokens of cars. And a fine example it is, too. The car is finished in Long Beach Blue, which suits it very nicely, and remains in excellent condition throughout. The black leather interior is in similarly good shape, and features all the bells and whistles you would expect to find in a BMW of this era.
A reassuring number of services are logged in the onboard computer system, and there is an equally reassuring absence of MOT advisories, with the next one not due until July 2025. And you’re even still allowed to drive it in London these days.
The straight-six engine is boosted by a turbocharger and produces 360 bhp and 343 lb ft, so the M2 doesn’t hang around. In fact, this allows it to reach 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds, with the dual-clutch transmission shifting through its seven speeds with lightning efficiency.
So, while we might be living in the future, we can still enjoy a versatile and quick straight six sports saloon. Best make the most of it while we can.

The M2 may be on the smaller end of the M-car spectrum, but this makes it a whole lot of fun to drive. The handling is well regarded and it packs a suitable punch under the bonnet. So if you’re looking for a compact yet capable four-seater, then this is certainly one to bid on.
