Overview
When the second generation of the Cayman was launched in 2013, Porsche took the same approach as they’ve taken over the years with the 911 – careful and gradual improvement in all areas. So it’s slightly bigger, marginally faster and built with moderately better materials than the previous generation.
The thing is, all these incremental changes combine to make the 981 a significantly better car than the first generation Cayman. They also retained the glorious naturally-aspirated flat-six powertrain and manual transmission of the first generation, making them much sought after by those who prefer this set-up over the later four-cylinder turbocharged powertrains.
Here we have a superb example of what we consider to be a near perfect little sports car. Although it’s the “base” model, it’s still replete with a cracking 2.7-litre flat-six pushing out 271hp, a proper three-pedal manual and the usual Porsche refinements and design. Add to that this example’s lovely Guards Red finish, subtle interior finishes, long MOT and genuinely low mileage, and we think it makes a case for being all the sports car you ever need.
Beautifully finished, in fine condition and surely a contender for future classic status, make sure you don’t let this gem pass you by.
